I have been having the time of my life photographing weddings the past 8 years. I seek out candid moments that convey a sense of rawness and honesty in my images. I specialize in finding natural light that captures truth and I love to watch the day unfold so I can capture moments as they happen. I enjoy deep contrast and vivid colors.

Moments - Family vacation weekends where we visit a new town for 48 hours and see what we can discover in that short time. Family dance parties in the kitchen with wedding music dialed to 10. A quiet house to edit in while West Wing or Frasier reruns play in the background.

Favorite moment during a wedding - The energy in the bridal suite before the ceremony is electric. That moment after the ceremony when bride and groom walk hand in hand as husband and wife.  I love a great wedding party speech - When the speech is that good I ofter remember bits from it years later. I remember bits from the groomsman's speech from a wedding we photographed in 2010 - it was that good.

And did you know…

I was once nominated for a nomination for a Pulitzer Prize. It was a photograph of famous 90's band REM at Reunion Arena, for the Dallas Morning News.

I like to refill things. “Uh oh, the hand soap is low! Guess I'll just have to fill it with the giant Costco supply.”

I like to do household tasks in a series of five: Washing dishes, folding laundry & picking up. Don't judge -         It works ;)

Deep Background..

I already knew I would become a photographer back in high school. I once presented my work during a critique and one of my teachers couldn't believe that I was responsible for my photographs. Right then, I knew I must have something. After that I had a nurturing photography teacher, Jeff Grimm, with a great background in the subject. Grimm never let me slide by with just “so, so” work. In college during a critique my favorite professor, Peter Feresten, told me that I would be HUGE, if I would partner with a great printer (not my favorite part of the job.) Incidentally, I was in Fort Worth on assignment for Budget Travel when I ran into that professor's brother, known only by his resemblance alone, he let me know that Feresten had passed away only two days before. I was able to attend the funeral of my favorite professor, it was kismet. 

Right after high school I got my first job as a photographer at the Grapevine Sun. A tiny paper in town, it was a growing community and I photographed gobs of ground breakings and pancake breakfast. I also freelanced for the Dallas Morning News, I didn't get a ton f calls but I got a few.

I moved to the Dallas Morning News and on election day 1996 the Day the Bill Clinton was elected was my last day. The next day I got in a Uhaul and moved to the city I was sure was my destiny. I moved right into the New York Times as a freelancer, shooting for metro and the arts and worked in the lab during by day. 

Fast forward four years.... I met the man of my dreams who helped me figure out what I like to shoot. We printed everything and laid everything on the floor and looked around the room to see what kind of work I liked. Portraits - I am madly in love with people. I secured friends on a daily basis and we went out and shot and rebuilt my commercial and editorial portfolio. And I started to work - a lot!  Was named Communication Arts top newcomers. 

We moved to Austin for a more relaxed pace. We had our son Bishop, and the next year we started She-N-He Photography where I have been using my expertise in editorial photography to create beautiful and lasting photographs to capture the memories of our many clients. I'm Happy.
